Mohamed Iqbal Khaled was elected on June 18, 2019 as mayor of Sousse after he ran as part of an independent list. During the Covid crisis, he contributed to taking care of vulnerable groups in the city of Sousse, including migrants, and encouraged civil work in the city. He was arrested on May 10, 2024, and Iman faces various charges such as money laundering, fraud, forming an agreement for the entry of foreigners and exploiting the job, and these charges come due to a partnership between the municipality of Sousse and the Tunis Land of Refuge Association under a project to open a guidance and counseling office for migrants and refugees.
