An appeal for solidarity with Abdallah El Said
On the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Abdallah El Said, president of the Children of the Moon Association in Medenine, was taken into custody by the National Unit for the Investigation of Complex Financial Crimes in Korjani. The charges against Abdallah El Said have not yet been specified, but they are mainly centered on activities related to the care of refugee, migrant and abandoned children, which are part of the activities carried out by the association in the Medenine region.
Abdullah Al-Saeed had previously been subjected to hate and racist campaigns on social networks due to his humanitarian work in helping migrant and refugee children.
Abdallah Saeed is a Tunisian citizen who enjoys all his civil and political rights and exercises his civic activity in full respect of the laws. His guilt is a political context that made his solidarity with migrant and refugee children in the Medenine region a crime worthy of prosecution.
Abdallah Saeed’s detention comes in the context of an ongoing policy of criminalizing solidarity with migrants, which has resulted in numerous arrests and non-stop prosecutions in files for which no session has yet been scheduled. This campaign started since the National Security Council meeting in May 2024 and continues to this day, revealing every day that new people are being referred for investigation for the sole purpose of providing humanitarian assistance to migrants.
The Follow-up Committee emphasizes the purely political nature of the investigation, which contradicts international instruments signed by the Tunisian state, and calls for an end to the policy of criminalizing solidarity with migrants and for the release of all those arrested and detained and the cessation of all prosecutions against them.
